Florida licensing steps for new sales associates

Here is the usual process to apply for a Florida real estate sales associate license. This is a general overview, and the DBPR requirements are the final authority.

  1. Complete a Florida approved 63 hour pre license course and pass the course final exam. The course completion is valid for two years from the date of completion.
  2. Submit your DBPR application for licensure. The course is not required at the time of application submission.
  3. Complete electronic fingerprints using an FDLE registered Livescan provider immediately after submitting your application. DBPR notes the application should precede fingerprints and it may take up to five days for results to be received by the Department.
  4. After DBPR approves your application, schedule the state exam through Pearson VUE.
  5. Bring proof of a valid course completion certificate to the exam site when you test. An expired course will not be accepted at the exam site.
  6. After you pass the exam, you will activate your license with a Florida broker.
